IN THE OFFICE
Welcome to our second quarterly newsletter.
Since last time, our staffing has changed. Now Carolyn has completed all her training, she is in the office 3 days per week. Toot has gone to two days per week now. She is trying to phase herself out, but she is just too good to let go!
HOME AND CONTENTS
It is tempting to put off some jobs around the house, but your insurance may not be a fall-back if an incident is caused or worsened by lack of maintenance, deterioration or wear and tear.
You may find that you don’t have a claim, say, if your roof iron is rusty and loose when a storm blows it away and fills the lounge room with rain water!
Faulty workmanship is also an exclusion, so make sure those jobs are done right!
On the positive side, did you know that under your CGU and Allianz home policies, you have many extra’s to your cover?
One of these (if you have contents cover) is cover for up to $500 toward Vet expenses if your cat or dog is injured in a road accident.
WHICH CAR COVER?
Many people own a vehicle which they believe is “not worth insuring”.
Ok, so your car is only worth a couple of grand and you can wear that if it gets written off. After all, you are saving money by not insuring it.
But what if your cheap car causes damage to someone else’s property? If you are at fault, you may find you are liable for replacing someone’s $50,000 Land Cruiser for instance.
Don’t think your Compulsory Third Party (greenslip) will cover it, as this only covers people, not property.
Usually for a couple of hundred dollars or so, (more for a young driver), you can take out Third Party cover for your “bomb” to cover other people’s property if you are at fault. Now that’s good insurance.
WORKER’S COMP
By law, it is up to an employer to notify an injury within 5 days of him/her becoming aware of that injury.
That’s 5 days. Not 5 working days.
Don’t wait for the person to see a doctor. Notify as soon as you know the injury or incident has occurred or it could cost you an excess of one weeks wages (or more).
In the unfortunate event that an incident does occur, you may find your business being investigated by Workcover.
CGU provides for it’s Countrypak customers a free product called “Farm Risk Radar”, which is an aid in recording your farm safety measures. Using this product will demonstrate to Workcover that you have made an effort when it comes to farm safety, which can only help your case.
